Discussion Starter · #1 · Aug 9, 2012 OK, after hours of scouring the internet and doing a search on this forum, i cant find one person who has had their torque converter clutch solenoid replaced. Last weekend i got the dreaded p0741 code. Now, I have seen where people have had their ECM units replaced, then their car throws out the p0741 code. The ECM in the wifes 05 corolla was replaced in
march of 2011, and we did not get the code and have had no problems with the car until now. Transmission fluid is fine, and the car still runs and shifts just fine. The only issue I had was when trying to go uphill on the interstate and trying to accelerate the car would get a weird vibration and lose power. But on flat land it would cruise at 75 mph no problem. Before i pay my guy to open up the transmission and replace the solenoid, i was wondering if anyone has had the TCC solenoid replaced
and if it remedied the situation. I have read where people have had ECM's replaced, and even have been told they need a new transmission and replaced it, only to have the code return. Like I said our ECM was replaced over a year ago, so i assume that cant be it. The car does have 150,000 miles on it. Ok, believe it or not as i was typing this the wife called to say the check engine light went out, now im really confused.

About a month late, but I got the p0741 code, had fluid flushed and solenoid replaced and car ran fine for a couple weeks. Good shifting, no cel lights. Then CEL came back on, same code. Drove it for a while, light off. Drive it for another week, light back on. Going to try to continue to swap the fluid/filter and see how long it lasts. Joined Jun 8, 2015 · 10 Posts
P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off Can someone please follow up with a result to this issue? I have the same issue (P0741 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off) and had my ECM replaced per TSB - TC008-04 in summer of 2013. A year later (summer 2014) the CEL came on and off and
didn't mind any attention to it (my ignorance) since it was very sporadic and turned off after a few miles. Now it's 2015 and the CEL is on most of the time unless I dont drive over 70MPH for over a couple 100 miles at a time. The CEL will return once I drive past 70MPH or if I drive on the highway. My 2005 Corolla S 1ZZ-FE (150K miles) is exhibiting the same exact behavior that is found all across the Internet (loss of power, going uphill issues, etc). Also, I have never replaced the
transmission fluid. Only routine oil changes and tune-ups every year. Sadly everyone posts the same questions or alternatives with the same outcome (issue returns) and not one single OP posts a follow up. I'm at my wits here and would like to avoid a $3-4K transmission replacement or a job costing over $500 if it was just a simple fix. Can someone who has a resolution or know what was performed to resolve the issue please reply to this forum (besides getting rid of the car -
that's not an option for me)? THANK YOU! Joined Jun 19, 2009 · 11,722 Posts

No but it did feel like a misfire when accelerating from a stop. I have posted my resolution below. Thanks for responding! I am happy to announce that my transmission error code > P0741 < was fixed! The solution to my issue was that the transmission fluid was never replaced since it was purchased new. The transmission has 151K
miles on it and now is running like the first day I bought her. I took a low cost chance, changed the transmission oil with a friend per the instructions on here (http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/1...-transmission-fluid-strainer-replacement.html). All instructions were followed to the 'T' and everything
went perfect. The engine code was gone the moment the engine was turned on and has stayed off since I last reported my rant. I know this is not a fix for everyone, but this is a cheap alternative and trial & error to fins out what the issue was. The Corolla shifts smoothly without any loos in power. Please be cautious about where you take your car and the BS scum bag "mechanics" will feed you to only drain your wallet. Best of luck and I hope this vote of confidence will help the next person

next person out there! I have exactly the same issue, 2004 Corolla with 127k miles, transmission fluid never changed, get CEL and P0741 intermittently when driving over 70 mph, no performance issues though. I'm considering doing the transmission fluid replacement myself, since a dishonest dealer has already told me I need a new transmission for $3500. I wondered if the problem has stayed fixed for you since you posted on 6/14? Thanks. Joined Sep 13, 2018 · 71 Posts
I have changed the Trans. fluid with Toyota type-iv, ATP trans. Filter, Rostra brand- TCC's Soleniod, disconnect wires connect to Transmission, cleaned it with electric spray and re-connect again; however, the CEL turn on again. Joined Jan 5, 2009 · 7,505 Posts
Did you measure resistance of wires end-to-end between ECU and solenoids? most of time, it's frayed, cracked or shorted wiring causing this issue. ECU can't control perfectly-working solenoid and throws code.

forum? but I did clean the connector to the Transmission. All I did is drain and fill 3 times, change TCCs and transmission filter and the code was off but then it comes on and off. I think it turned on after I hit 40-50 mph freeway. Where is the torque converter clutch solenoid located?Positioned between the rear of the engine and the front of the transmission is the torque converter. The torque converter is responsible for transmitting the engine's torque and power to the transmission.
How do I fix the code P0741 on a Toyota Corolla? What repairs can fix the P0741 code?. Replacing the torque converter lockup solenoid.. Replacing the TCC solenoid.. Repairing damaged wiring to TCC solenoid.. Replacing the valve body.. Replacing the TCM.. Repairing damaged wiring to the transmission wiring harness.. Replacing ECT sensor.. Can you replace a torque converter clutch solenoid?Replacing A Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid
Whenever any of these fail, you will not be able to generate the necessary pressure in the torque converter to shift gears effectively. It is very common to replace all these parts when replacing a TCC solenoid. All of these parts can go out at the same time.
