A few minutes after start up the valves open completely and serve no other purpose. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is just the computer that controls the engine. If I we're you before I do anything I'd squirt a can of carb cleaner in the intake tract as close to the intake manifold as possible with the engine running.
