"With extreme weather in the Pacific Northwest and supply-chain issues in the U.S., this is not the year to buy a tree last-minute," the American Christmas Tree Association’s website says. “These challenges mean that there will be fewer live and artificial Christmas trees available this year, and those that are available will cost more than before.” “Despite recent headlines, the majority of U.S. consumers will be able to find the perfect Christmas tree for their home this year,” the association’s frequently-asked questions page reads. Similarly, Home Depot is “feeling good as we’re heading into the holiday season,” spokesperson Margaret Smith said. “We don’t anticipate a change in supply compared to previous years” due to longstanding relationships with tree suppliers, Smith said. The Republic reached out to several metro Phoenix big-box stores, including Target, the Home Depot, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Walmart, to find out what their stock and price ranges look like for live and artificial Christmas trees. Prices can be drastically different between a utilitarian tree and one that is snow-flocked and pre-decorated. “This year, Lowe’s is offering its largest selection of artificial trees ever, with nearly 4,000 options to choose from ranging from 4 feet to 12 feet tall and in full and slim options,” a spokesperson for Lowe’s told The Republic. On the Lowe’s website, artificial trees range from $11 for a 2-foot-tall tree to $7,073 for a 14-foot tree with 2,700 LED lights. A 5-foot tree starts at $23 online, and both 7- and 8-foot trees start at $46. Target’s artificial trees range from under 4 feet to taller than 8 feet.
