Loccitane shower oil dupe

I love love love their almond shower oil but it's pricey so i thought I'd try to recreate it? It seems to be a cleansing oil but for the body so here is my proposed recipe.

95% sweet almond oil

5% polysorbate 80

10 drops essential / fragrance oil

If I am unable to find almond fragrance oil i will replace it with vanilla / orange / ylang ylang.

Any criticisms for this recipe? And does anyone know what ylang ylang smells like? I've seen it being described as sweet.

I know it’s an anhydrous recipe, but since it’s going to be used in the shower primarily, I would strongly consider a preservative

Ohh yeah good idea. Oh dear my budget... The preservatives available to me are potassium sorbate, Sodium Benzoate and benzoic acid. Which is apt for this and in what percentage? Thank you for the help!

Ylang ylang is a very strong floral. I get a heavy/rich white floral from it.

Agreed, it's a not sweet in the gourmand sense but in a heady floral one. Not everyone likes it. If almond is what you're aiming for, I don't think it's the best fit.

Measure your ingredients by weight, if you have a gram scale. Drops are VERY variable.

Isn't that a bit hard to do with essential oils? Bc it's such a small amount?

in my experience polysorbate 80 wont mix with the oil so youll have to shake it before use everytime. i heard olivem 300 is good but im yet to try it. otherwise, use emulsifying wax.

I have very few emulsifiers available to me and sadly none of the ones you've suggested. I've even read somewhere that polysorbate 80 smells terrible and I'm a but worried about that. Will just have to hope for the best, but thanks for the recs!

I make my own after shower oil:

1/4 almond oil 1/4 avocado oil 1/4 jojoba oil 1/4 coconut oil

I can’t help you with trying to replicate the scent but my usual scent (Vanouli from https://www.escentsational.com/) is an oil so I add a few drops when I’m mixing them.

Polysorbate 80 and almond oil will separate in 15 minutes after mixing. If you want to make such a product you need high polarity esters, such as, octyldodecanol, caprylic/capric triglycerides or as the cheapest version c12-15 Alkyl benzoate. Such a product makes a great makeup remover by the way. You also need to up Polysorbate 80 to 20% to make it work properly.
