Can you eat before the dentist

Going to the dentist is never something I look forward to, but since moving over to Birchgrove Dental Practice last year, it's no longer something that fills me with dread! Craig is always highly professional, knowledgeable and very thorough. The true test came this week when I had to have root canal work done. I can honestly say there was no pain involved at all!

Another bonus is Craig is great with my 18 month old son. I didn't know how he would react with a trip to the dentist, but with lots of patience (and stickers!) he felt quite at home.

A big thank you to all the team

Leah Phillips

I started my treatment with Craig about a year ago and I now have a full set of lovely straight teeth. Craig was brilliant throughout the whole treatment, and would always explain what he was doing and why and the next steps.

I would highly recommend Craig and the Birchgrove Dental Practice, and to anyone thinking of having treatment, I'd say "do it, you won't regret it." I have a much more confident smile now too.

Anabelle Harrington – Personal Assistant

I've been to Birchgrove twice now in preparation for my Invisalign treatment. Both times I have been greeted by a highly professional, efficient and welcoming outfit. Craig is an extremely knowledgeable, but also caring dentist who will do his best to give you exactly what you want. Overall, Birchgrove is a fantastic dental practice and I very much look forward to my next visit and treatment.

Having my brace fitted was really simple and easy. It's really discreet and many of my work colleague can't believe I have anything on my teeth. My top teeth didn't require braces, only my bottom teeth. I would recommend Birchgrove Dental Practice. The friendly staff and a very relaxed atmosphere made my appointments very easy as I used to be quite a nervous patient.

Stephen Buckley - Configuration Engineer

I've recently had braces and was completely thrilled with the result. Craig is a really nice guy with obviously bags of knowledge and expertise, he's extremely professional and I felt at ease before, during and after my treatment. I would highly recommend this Dental practice

If it’s time for your bi-annual cleaning and oral exam at the dentist, you may be wondering how to prepare. Despite the common misconception that it’s wrong to eat before the visit, the friendly team at Main Street Dental in La Crosse, WI, advise that there are many benefits to having a meal or snack before heading to the clinic.

Why Eat Before Seeing the Dentist?

1. Decrease Stress Levels

Skipping a meal before a trip to the dentist can cause your blood sugar and energy levels to drop. When this occurs, it can increase stress levels, making an otherwise simple process unnecessarily unpleasant. It is particularly dangerous for a diabetic patient to forgo eating, as they risk experiencing an insulin shock as a result.

2. Prevent Light-Headedness

A decline in blood sugar levels can lead to light-headedness while in the dentist’s chair. Patients might also feel weak, dizzy, or nauseous. Eat a protein-rich meal before the appointment to sustain you through the process.

3. Make It Easier to Perform the Procedure

If you are scheduled for a dental bonding or filling, eating before the appointment can make the procedure easier for the dentist. Skipping a meal causes the salivary glands to be over-stimulated during the treatment. This makes the process more challenging, as the mouth must be dry for them to complete the dental work.

If you live in or around La Crosse, WI, and need to make an appointment with a dentist for a routine cleaning, turn to the team at Main Street Dental. The premier dentistry center offers a full suite of services, including preventive care, and cosmetic treatments to help you maintain a radiant smile. Can you eat before a filling at the dentist?

The Dental Filling Procedure There's not too much you'll need to do to prepare for your appointment. Because the procedure is non-invasive, you don't need to fast. Also, go ahead and brush your teeth as you normally would. If you know you'll have anxiety, try to schedule your filling appointment for the morning hours.

What is the best thing to eat before going to the dentist?

A high-protein meal before you go to the dentist can help you to feel satiated for at least three hours. If you've got a long dental appointment coming up, a meal that is high in protein - such as eggs, nuts, or fish - can help you to continue feeling full throughout the procedure.
