San Antonio's newest eatery is an all-you-can-eat sushi spot. The San Antonio Current reported that the new spot, Umiya, is now open for business.

The restaurant includes a full bar and is located in Northwest San Antonio. It's housed in the space that formerly held Drew Brees' Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux.

The Corpus Christi-based sushi restaurant serves all-you-can-eat soups, salads, hibachi, and sushi. It joins a plethora of sushi spots in San Antonio, including Izumi Sushi & Hibachi, Kura Sushi, Time to 8, and Sushi Haya.

Umiya is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Sushi Haya has been in the works since last November, according to its social media accounts. The owners have been sprucing up the interiors of the space at 226 W. Bitters Road #120 to include a spacious dining room, a sushi bar and a full bar serving cocktails, wine, beer and sake.

The newcomer joins recent additions to the SA sushi scene — say that five times fast — including Toro’ko Sushi, Izumi Sushi & Hibachi and highly anticipated Japanese chain Kura Sushi.

Sushi Haya's all-you-can-eat offer is limited to two hours.

Sushi Haya's menu is extensive, offering bento boxes, rolls, sushi and sashimi, along with Japanese and hibachi entrees. The all-you-can-eat offer holds guests to a few standard rules, including a two-hour time limit.

The restaurant has scheduled its soft opening for Wednesday. Operating hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Lunch specials are available weekdays 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

The new eatery, which also includes a full bar, has taken over the far Northwest San Antonio space that formerly housed Drew Brees' Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux, 11075 Interstate 10 West, Suite 200. The sushi spot held a soft opening May 24, and is now open to the public, according to social media posts.

Umiya joins a bevy of new sushi restaurants that have cropped up in San Antonio, including Izumi Sushi & Hibachi and Sushi Haya — both in the Northeast quadrant — Kura Sushi at the Alamo Quarry Market and Time to 8 in the Medical Center.

Upcoming sushi-heavy spots also include Washington State-based Trapper’s and Cincinnati-based sushi burrito spot Roll On In. Those will open in Northwest and Northeast San Antonio, respectively.

Umiya is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Umiya, the new all-you-can-eat sushi spot, is now open in San Antonio. The Corpus Christi-based concept is now housed in the former spot of Drew Brees' Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux.

The highway-facing restaurant at 11075 Interstate 10 West takes over the space that once housed the sports bar, which closed in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Another Walk-On's location remains at 1400 Pantheon Way in Stone Oak.

An employee at Umiya tells MySA the restaurant is now open daily. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. most days, except Fridays and Saturdays when Umiya closes at 10:30 p.m. The restaurant was not immediately available to return requests for comment.

According to the Corpus Christi location's social media pages, the restaurant is not a buffet, but all-you-can eat options are available for soups, salads, appetizers, hibachi, and sushi. The business also has a full bar serving mixed drinks.

Social media promotions show drinks like a lychee martini are available. The restaurant also shared online that staff is in a soft opening phase and tables will not be sat within 30 minutes of closing.

While limitless sushi seems to be a strong pull for local Japanese food fans, Umiya tells customers the restaurant has "so many options to choose from." The menu includes teriyaki and hibachi items.

Like most all-you-can-eat sushi spots, Umiya does employ some rules on the menu, like sharing is not allowed and leftovers will be charged as a la carte menu items. The menu includes classic rolls, chef options, and tempura rolls. The lunch menu is $19.95 for adults and $9.95 for kids. The dinner menu is $29.95 for adults and $15.95 for kids.

Umiya joins Izumi, an all-you-can-eat option which opened in Thousand Oaks in February 2021, as a never-ending sushi option. San Antonio also welcomed Kura, a revolving sushi bar which allows customers to pluck as many rolls of sushi that they're willing to pay for and eat, off a conveyor belt.
