The Smartcard Registartion Certificate system

The Registering Authority under Directorate of Transport introduced the smartcard system for registration certificate of vehicles from 15-sep-2014 onwards.

The RC will have a pan Indian design which will have a same look and feel across the country.

It has several security features such as certain colour patterns, specific design, State specific logo, hologram, microprocessor etc. to make sure that this card cannot be replicated. Enforcement agencies in other States can check the authenticity of these smart card RC on the spot using readers.

    Know Your Vehicle RC Application & Transfer Status in Punjab (PB)

    While obtaining a driver’s licence is required to drive a motor vehicle on Indian roads, obtaining a registration certificate is equally important. A registration certificate, often known as an RC, is a government-issued document that certifies that your car has been registered with the Indian government. It’s a piece of paper that proves your vehicle’s registration.

    To be able to operate a motor vehicle on Indian roadways, every vehicle owner must obtain a valid RC. According to the Motor Vehicles Act, no one can operate a car on Indian roads without a valid registration certificate.

    A car registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of issue and can be renewed for another 5 years. A temporary registration certificate is only valid for one month after it is issued and cannot be renewed.

    How to Check Vehicle RC Application Status in Punjab?

    There was an urgent need to put all government services on a digital platform for Indian citizens to easily access them while sitting on their sofa. As a result, all government departments are gradually adopting digital platforms for their services which includes RC-related services as well. Following are the steps to check RC application status in Punjab:

    1. Visit the Parivahan official website.
    2. Hover over Online Services and select Vehicle-Related Services
    3. Now choose “Punjab” from the “Select State” drop-down menu.
    4. Select your vehicle registration RTO and then click Proceed.
    5. You must select the Status tab on this page. This will present you with a number of options, from which you must choose the Know your application status option.
    6. Now, type in your application number and hit the “Submit” button.
    7. On your screen, you’ll see your vehicle ownership transfer status and other data.

    In Punjab, you can check the status of a vehicle’s ownership transfer by using the application number. If you have an application number and want to verify the progress of car ownership transfer, follow the steps below:

    1. Visit the parivahan official website: https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/.
    2. Hover over Online Services and select Vehicle-Related Services
    3. Now choose “Punjab” from the “Select State” drop-down menu.
    4. Select your vehicle registration RTO and then click Proceed.
    5. You must select the Status tab on this page. This will present you with a number of options, from which you must choose the Know your application status option.
    6. Now, type in your application number and hit the “Submit” button.

    If you don’t remember your application number, follow these steps to verify your RC status by registration number:

    1. To begin, go to Parivahan’s official website: Hover over “Online Services” and pick “Vehicle-Related Services” https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
    2. From the “Select State” drop-down option, select “Punjab.”
    3. Select your vehicle registration RTO and then click Proceed.
    4. You must select the “Status” tab on this page. This brings up a menu of alternatives, from which you should choose “Know your application status.”
    5. Now choose “Registration No.” and enter your vehicle’s registration number before clicking “Submit.”

    How to Apply for Vehicle Registration Certificate in Punjab?

    Vehicle dealers in India are authorized to register a new vehicle on behalf of the owner. The vehicle is only delivered to the buyer after the registration process has been completed by the dealer. The car purchaser also has the option of registering their vehicle with the local RTO. The registering authority issues the vehicle registration certificate (RC) and assigns a vehicle registration number after verifying all paperwork and inspecting the vehicle..

     Documents Required

    Required documents for RC:

    • The manufacturer of the vehicle submits an application in CMV Form 20, Form 22.
    • Form 21 is issued by the vehicle’s dealer.

    • The applicant’s affidavit
    • Self-attested copy of the car owner’s and financier’s address proof Form 34 (In case of hypothecation)

    • Photographs of the car owner in passport size

    After all of the paperwork is submitted, a registration number is assigned and a fee receipt is issued to the applicant for commercial vehicle registration.

    How to Apply for Vehicle Ownership Transfer in Punjab

    Form 29 (in duplicate) and Form 30 (in duplicate if covered by finance/hire purchase/lease) with the signatures of the financer must be submitted to the Registering Authority in whose jurisdiction the transferor and transferee reside or have their place of business, along with the appropriate fee as specified in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
