About 5-6 kids have this tradition at home in each class, so I wanted to let others know what it was about. Kids have been coming in the morning like crazy to look for the Elf on the Shelf. I have middle schoolers hiding it at 7:00. It has been fun. I didn't know there were so many costumes at the store.Mine is only a kind library shelf elf. Dec 31, 2019 Sam rated it liked it This is a delightful little read and a lovely tradition for those with young kids to incorporate into their Christmases (should they want to of course). My niece thoroughly enjoyed looking for the elf on each visit to nanny and bampi's and I actually rather enjoyed helping relocate the elf each time as well as reading the book. I hate that I finally had to give into this phenomenon when a precious 5yo came home from school with tears in his eyes saying, “Mama, Santa likes the other kids better than me, he sent them all elves.” Damn you, commercialized Christmas!
Dec 13, 2020 Leah G rated it liked it Meh. Elf on the shelf seems like a lot of added work to an already busy holiday season. There’s different ways to spread joy and have fun, but if you like it, more power to you. You’ll like this book if you’re into hiding elves.
3/5 (physical book) I really enjoyed this story that came with my Elf on the Shelf. It is cute and mystical, and the rhyme scheme makes the story engaging for the readers. The illustrations are well done, and it is a fun tradition for families to share.
