But right at the top of the ingredient list (meaning it exists at a higher concentration than anything below it) is what I suspect to be the true star of this conditioner: dimethicone, a silicone that forms a smooth film over the cuticle to protect each strand from humidity and frizz. Now some of you may read that and think, BAD, since there has been some backlash against silicones in shampoos (some chemists say they may stick to the scalp and potentially clog follicles and slow growth), but you still definitely want them in frizz-busting conditioners (especially if you keep them away from the roots). And because this one comes in a squeeze bottle, it’s easy to control how much you are putting in your hair so you don’t weigh it down. Amelia’s curls require about a nickel-size blob; Gus needs even less — just a pea-size drop; and with a full quarter-size dollop, my hair is on its way to a glossy, smooth air-dry.
