These cakes are given their name because after the cake is baked, holes are poked all throughout the cake before adding some type of liquid into the holes. Most common liquids are jello and sweetened condensed milk. Poke cakes are so fun to make and can be made with a combination of flavors. How do you poke a hole in a cake?Using the handle of a wooden spoon ($8, Walmart), poke holes through the cake about 1 inch apart. Make sure the holes aren't too close together or too far apart—if they're too close together, your cake could be too moist; if they're too far apart, there may not be enough filling throughout the cake.
How long is poke cake good for in the fridge?Store leftover poke cake, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Should poke cakes be refrigerated? It's best refrigerated, and especially if poke cake is topped with whipped cream, it should be kept in the refrigerator. A prepared poke cake will last for about four days in the fridge. Freshen it up with some fresh fruit on top and it's good as new!
