What Exactly is a Spark Evo?We recommend checking out this video to see the Sea-Doo Spark Evo in action. As you can see in the video, the Sea-Doo Spark Evo is a super fun, super nimble aquatic vehicle. It’s basically a water go-kart! To create the Evo, the base Sea-Doo Spark model has been adapted with a conversion kit, made by American Jet Concept. The original modification was a one-off, meant to be a fun experiment that employees at the company made for a friend. However, when they tested the Jet Kart, they thought it was so fun that they wanted to make more. Spark Evo Specs and FeaturesDimensions and FeaturesHullThe Spark Evo Jet Kart has the same hull dimensions as an unmodified Spark. The addition of the roll cage adds some height. The 3up models have an additional 10 inches added to the rear of the hull, which makes them extremely stable. SeatsThe regular Spark seats have been replaced with a single bucket seat. This gives this modified PWC an extremely low center of gravity, making it very stable. Unfortunately, it’s impossible for 2 people to ride in the Spark Evo—if you want to ride with passengers, you’ll need to remove the conversion kit and go back to the regular Spark. SteeringThe Spark handlebars have been removed and replaced with a steering wheel, allowing the rider to steer the PWC like a go-kart. SpeedThe Jet Kart has the same top speed as the Sea-Doo Spark, which is between 42-53 mph, depending on the horsepower and other specs. The 90HP models can hit as much as 48 mph under ideal conditions, while the 60HP models will top out around 42-45MPH. Can I make another type of PWC into a go-kart?Unfortunately, right now the Sea-Doo Spark is the only PWC with the capacity to be modified into a Go-Kart. That’s because the Sea-Doo Spark is the only PWC on the market that is made with a fully removable top deck. This makes it a perfect candidate for modifying. It also means that the modifications are reversible. Other PWC models like Yamaha and Kawasaki do not have removable top decks. Additionally, those PWCs have their motors placed too far forward to accommodate the bucket seat. What happens if it flips?According to American Jet Concept, it’s extremely difficult to flip the Sea-Doo Spark Evo Jet Kart. This is because the extensions to the hull give it greater stability and the bucket seat lowers the rider’s center of gravity. There are multiple videos available online of the manufacturers performing test rides on the Jet Kart. In the videos, the riders perform difficult maneuvers that would be impossible on an unmodified Spark. One video features a sit-down discussion with the Jet Kart’s creator, in which a test driver first drives the Spark Evo and actively tries to flip it without success. In the event that the Jet Kart does flip, it is very easy to get out of. There is no harness keeping the rider attached to the vehicle, and the roll cage is completely open on top. Exiting the vehicle after a roll is as simple as pulling your legs out of the bucket seat and swimming away. How comfortable is the seat?Depending on the size of the rider, the seat can be a little more uncomfortable than a regular Sea-Doo seat. Because you are closer to the waves, you will feel the impact of bumps more than you would on a regular jet ski. Additionally, the angle at which you sit can become cramped after extended periods of riding. American Jet Concept is currently working on a new version of the Jet Kart that has two seats. They have stated that as part of this upgrade, they are also working on improving the comfort of the seats. How long does the conversion take?It takes about 3 hours to completely install the conversion kit. You don’t need to be a professional to install the kit, and everything you need is provided except for tools. How much does the Sea-Doo Evo cost?Sea-Doo sells 5 pre-made Jet Kart models with the conversion kit already installed starting at $14,990 for the 60HP model. The 90HP model starts at $15,990 and the 120HP model runs as much as $17,990. This cost includes the Sea-Doo Spark, with its original parts, including handlebars, seat, and regular top deck, as well as the pre-installed conversion kit. To purchase just the conversion kit by itself will cost you around $8490. An unmodified Sea-Doo Spark (i.e. one sold by Sea-Doo without the conversion kit) starts around $5699, so buying the new Spark and conversion kit separately will cost about as much as buying a premade Jet Kart.
