Seven deadly sins four knights of the apocalypse release date

A few years ago, fans of Seven Deadly Sins were treated to bittersweet news when the manga came to an end. However, most were delighted to learn that a direct sequel would begin serializing soon after. Taking place sixteen years after the final arc in Seven Deadly Sins, Four Knights of the Apocalypse stars a brand-new cast of characters as its main protagonists and, who, much like the Seven Deadly Sins, are tasked in saving Britannia.

While there are only around seventy chapters currently published, the story has rapidly progressed. The new characters have already become acquainted with each other, with the titular Four Knights of the Apocalypse officially forming. However, much more has occurred, and with an anime adaptation for the series having been announced not too long ago, now is a great time to take a look at the series.

The Premise Of Four Knight Of the Apocalypse

The story of Four Knight of the Apocalypse begins sixteen years after the defeat of the Demon King. While it was originally planned for Meliodas and Elizabeth's son Tristan to be the main protagonist, it was later changed to follow a brand-new character, Percival. Raised in isolation at the top of a mountain known as God's Finger by his ex-Holy Knight grandfather, Varghese, Percival and his grandfather are attacked by a powerful Holy Knight named Ironside on his sixteenth birthday. Varghese dies in the fight with Percival deciding to venture out on his own to find out why he and his grandfather were attacked.

Along the way, Percival, along with a few friends he's made along the way, begins to uncover the motives behind Ironside's actions. King Arthur, along with Merlyn, has seemingly turned evil, possibly giving into some negative aspects of his magic power, Chaos. His goal is to eradicate all the races that aren't human from Britannia. According to prophecy, Percival, along with three other Holy Knights will bring about Camelot and Arthur's demise, and have been dubbed the Four Knights of the Apocalypse. Percival's main goal is to find the other Knights of the Apocalypse and become strong enough to save his friends.

Currently, Percival has managed to make it to Liones, with Meliodas trying to gather all the Knights together. Percival has also managed to get quite strong over the course of his journey. Not only has he unlocked his magic power, known as "Hope", but he's even received a decent amount of training from one of the other Knights of the Apocalypse. While in Liones, the kingdom is attacked by Arthur's forces, with the Four Knights of the Apocalypse trying to quell the situation.

The Main Cast

As mentioned above, Percival is the main character of Four Knights of the Apocalypse. While sixteen years old, he physically appears much younger, not too dissimilar to Meliodas and his deceiving appearance. With combat training from both his grandfather and Lancelot, the son of Ban and Elaine, Percival is also a capable fighter. His power "Hope" grants him an aura that he can manipulate and use in multiple ways, whether it be fighting or supporting his allies. He also has a strange power that lets him mummify living things, a process which only his own healing powers can reverse. While he is definitely the primary protagonist, Percival might be the most mysterious due to very little about his nature and origins having been largely a mystery, even to him. He is the Knight of Death.

Percival has also managed to form a small squad of his own with a few companions he's met a long the way. Donny is a Holy Knight dropout, Nasiens is a highly intelligent biologist and chemist that specializes in poisons and medicines, and Anghalad is a noble girl that joins their motley crew after Ironside attacks her town. They are rounded out by Sin, a pink fox that actually turns out to be Lancelot in disguise trying to train them secretly in order to prepare them for the battle against Camelot.

Lancelot is the second of the Knights introduced in the story, and has proven to be one of the strongest characters in the franchise. With the powers of the fairies that he inherited from his mother, he can shape-shift into a fox and read the hearts of others. Also sharing similarities with his father, his body is incredibly strong and Lancelot is an expert combatant and assassin for the Liones Kingdom. It's even stated that the reason his existence as an agent is so unknown is that none of his targets have lived long enough to tell anyone about him. He is the Knight of War.

Tristan and Gawain are the last of the Four Knights to be introduced in the series, with it being rather ironic for the former given he was revealed before all the others back in the final chapter of Seven Deadly Sins. Tristan is the son of Meliodas and Elizabeth with the powers of both the Demons and the Goddesses and also the Knight of Pestilence. He is very caring towards others and incredibly polite compared to Lancelot and especially Gawain. Surprisingly, Gawain is the niece of King Arthur who also happens to have the Grace "Sunshine" as her magic power and the Knight of Famine, making her easily one of the strongest characters in the series. However, unlike Mael and Escanor, Gawain is rather inexperienced in combat and using her powers, making her strong yet somewhat unreliable.

The main antagonist of the series, King Arthur, has unfortunately been largely absent, as has Merlyn. Though when he has appeared, it's obvious that this is a different Arthur Pendragon than the one from Seven Deadly Sins. He's cruel and seems to even revel in hurting people. Merlyn also seems to be acting rather uncharacteristically. While her dynamic with Arthur has always been different from with all other characters, her own thoughts and feelings on Arthur's actions are largely unknown, but it hasn't stopped her from assisting him whenever he asks her too.

How to Get Started With Four Knights of the Apocalypse

Deadly Sins sequel series Four Knights of the Apocalypse

The Four Knights of the Apocalypse is a currently ongoing manga. While the simulpub of new chapters seems to have ended, new volumes are still being released, with multiple having already been published in English here in the west since the beginning of the year. They can be bought both digitally and in hard copy formats.

For those less inclined to reading, an anime adaptation has been announced for the series not too long ago. While its release as well as the studio behind it are still unknown, this could be a chance to repair the franchises' reputation. While quite popular during its first two seasons, after a studio change occurred prior to the third, the quality of the animation went completely downhill, with many choosing to avoid the series altogether as a result. If handled properly, this sequel anime could potentially change a lot of people's minds and fix the reputation the last adaptation left behind.
