Petsafe scoopfree self cleaning cat litter box reviews

Petsafe scoopfree self cleaning cat litter box reviews

We have tried and tested a variety of self-cleaning litter boxes for cats now and we have come across some good and others not up to par. I already got tired of having to scoop up the waste every day and I bet you are starting to get tired of it too. Therefore, I have scoured the internet again in search of a new automatic self-cleaning litter box for cats and found the PetSafe Scoopfree Ultra Litter Box which is one of the popular choices these days.

And this is why I purchased it to test it myself and listed out the design, ease of cleaning, size, smart features, material, and price as the factors I considered in reviewing and rating this product. So check out my PetSafe Scoopfree Litter Box Review to see what I’ve found.

Factors We Considered In PetSafe ScoopFree Litter Box Review

Design

Petsafe scoopfree self cleaning cat litter box reviews

Upon purchase, the PetSafe ScoopFree Automatic Litter Box comes with the main rigging unit, the body of the litter box, the litter tray, and a bag of cat litter. It is designed to be very simple and convenient for cat-owners to assemble and disassemble when disposing of the disposable litter box. The company prides itself for its excellent odor control, however, based on my personal experience, this claim only lasts for so long, and when this effect dwindles down, you will have to dispose of it as it goes really bad, although this is quite common when using silica gel cat litter.

What I really love about PetSafe ScoopFree Litter Box design is its flexibility. There are a bunch of colours available (gray, purple, taupe) as well as you can pick the front entry styling.

Ease Of Cleaning & Setup

The PetSafe ScoopFree Litter Box is designed very well to be very convenient for all cat-owners out there. It comes with a disposable box that is already pre-filled with PetSafe silica gel cat litter. There is no need for you to do any scooping for 30 days, and when the waste receptacle gets full with waste, all you have to do is remove the top part of the litter box, place back the top cover the disposable box, remove it and throw it away, then replace with a new disposable litter box that is already, again, pre-filled with PetSafe’s very own silica gel cat litter.

The plus side of this is that you do not need to touch or clean the litter box, just remove it and throw it in the bin, however, the downside of this is that it may become costly in the long run if you keep buying and disposing of the pre-filled disposable litter box.

Another thing I noticed is that the rake is not really able to capture all the smaller waste products that are left in the litter bed, and that after one week, waste sticks onto and build up on the rake and you will have to manually clean it up.

It’s so easy to set up. This short video explains it all:

Size

This automatic litter box is designed to only serve one cat at a time and you may need to replace the disposable litter box more frequently if you have more than one cat. It measures 28.5 x 20.5 x 11.5 inches (LxWxH).

Smart Features

The PetSafe ScoopFree Automatic Litter Box features a sensor that detects your cat’s presence and then waits for 20 minutes after your cat leaves the litter box to give time for absorption before it starts its cycle. It then starts to pull the solid wastes into the waste receptacle and closes the door afterwards, and this raking process only takes over a minute. This helps in sifting the things around the litter and it also distributes any remaining bodily fluids to ensure better absorption and it actually works very well. I never experienced any malfunctions or jammings of the rake, and it works very quietly.

Material

The PetSafe ScoopFree Cat Litter Box is simply made from sturdy plastic materials that ensures its longevity and durability.

Price

The PetSafe ScoopFree Automatic Litter Box offers two choices for you which are:

  1. The ScoopFree Smart Self-Cleaning Litter box costs $199.95. This model allows you to connect to its My PetSafe App which lets you track the health insights of your cat.
  2. The ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box, Second Generation costs $139.95.

This model, on the other hand, functions just the same as the previous one except that this does not offer any health monitoring feature via their My PetSafe App.

Conclusion

The PetSafe ScoopFree Automatic Cat Litter Box is good enough for me due to its convenience and ease of use. When the waste receptacle is already filled with waste products, all you have to do is cover up the whole litter box back again and just throw it away as neatly as it is, and just replace it with a new disposable litter box that is already pre-filled with PetSafe’s silica gel cat litter.

However, I would still recommend the Litter Robot 3 Connect over this product as it just ultimately does a better job at just about anything they both can do overall. It sifts the wastes very well, it does a better odor control, features the Connect App which not only allows you to monitor your cat’s health but also lets you remotely trigger the manual cleaning cycle, shows you how much waste has already filled the waste receptacle, and adjust the settings of the Litter Robot 3 Connect smart cat litter box. It offers more helpful features than what the PetSafe ScoopFree Litter Box can offer.

Is ScoopFree litter box good?

Our home tester found the PetSafe ScoopFree to be effective at both self-cleaning and odor control. It's also remarkably quiet. Plus, unlike the Litter-Robot 4, the PetSafe won't take up a ton of space in your home. "I would recommend this product for people living in an apartment or smaller space," our tester said.

How long does PetSafe ScoopFree last?

The ScoopFree litter tray does the rest. Filled with crystal litter that controls odor, the disposable tray lasts up to 30 days before it needs to be replaced. Throw the disposable litter trays away. No scooping needed!

Can you use normal litter with PetSafe ScoopFree?

A: The ScoopFree Self Cleaning Litter Box system recommends clump free litter. The crystals function to dry out and eliminate urine and fecal odor. Regular clumping litter would make it difficult for the auto rake to move fecal material to waste containment hood. Helpful?

What kind of litter can I use with PetSafe ScoopFree litter box?

I also have some qualms with the waste this box generates over time. Even if you use a reusable tray, the 4.5 pounds of litter the Petsafe Scoop Free requires must be replaced every two to four weeks, and only one type of litter, Petsafe's own crystal formula, can be used with the device.
