Navy Army Community Credit Union (formerly known as Navy Army Federal Credit Union) is a credit union headquartered in Corpus Christi, Texas, chartered and regulated under the authority of the Texas Credit Union Department of the U.S. federal government. NavyArmy is the largest credit union in the coastal bend. As of September 2020, NavyArmy has over $3.5 billion USD in assets, and over 196,000 members.[3]

History[edit]

NavyArmy was chartered on January 28, 1955 as Naval Employees Corpus Christi Federal Credit Union. Only employees from the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi were eligible to join. In 2003, the credit union changed its charter to open membership to all residents of the Coastal Bend.[4] Over the years, through careful management, outstanding customer service and supportive membership[citation needed], NavyArmy has grown to become the largest credit union in the Corpus Christi area. In 2012 NavyArmy opened two locations in the Rio Grande Valley, the first in McAllen Texas and the second in Brownsville Texas.

Membership[edit]

NavyArmy's field of membership is set by the Texas Credit Union Department. As with all credit unions, membership in NavyArmy is limited to individuals sharing the common bond defined in its credit union charter. Membership in NavyArmy is limited to all people, businesses and/or legal entities who live, work, worship and/or go to school in Aransas, Bee, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, and San Patricio counties.

Organization[edit]

NavyArmy is chartered with Texas Credit Union Department as a community credit union. Like all credit unions, NavyArmy is governed by a board of volunteers, elected by and from its membership.

In the summer of 2011 the board of NavyArmy proposed changing from a federal charter to a State of Texas charter. This change would provide NavyArmy the opportunity to expand into additional geographic areas of Texas.[5]

Services[edit]

NavyArmy offers a suite of account services offered by most financial institutions, including savings accounts, checking accounts, IRA accounts, and CDs. The savings product is named "Share Savings" to reflect the fact that a member's initial savings deposit ($15) literally represents their share of ownership in the credit union. NavyArmy also offers members consumer loans, mortgages and home equity lines of credit, as well as small business services.

NavyArmy has 17 branches and over 500 ATMs, located in its Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley service area and in hundreds of Stripes convenience stores in Texas and Oklahoma. NavyArmy offers extensive online services via its corporate website.

I had forgotten my login Id. Called customer service. I was on hold for 30 minutes. Just to be told that let me transfer you to another representative. And they told me they’re not sure how long the way it’s going to be. The worst customer service in banking history. This is the reason I’m closing my account. It’s frustrating to deal with these people. I gave it zero stars worse than one.

I would give it 0 stars. This bank is a baby bank, with a system that is still trying to figure out society. I left the bank after I kept having problems with them charging insufficient funds even if I did have the money in the bank. They charge insufficient funds as soon as the charge happens, regardless if it's pending. I kept calling, and I even had to go to the bank to show the representative how it was NOT my mistake, and 1 or 2 uncalled-for insufficient funds created a wave of 4 or 5 more for minimal charges that SHOULD have not been insufficient if the first two insufficient fees wouldn't have been charged. Even so, when they waived some insufficient fees, it got to a point where they said, "we can only do so much, you still have to pay these other ones." Once that happened, I just left the bank, and went with Bank of America. They give you the chance to pay whatever negative balance is pending, and don't charge the insufficient fund till after the negative goes off pending.

I am rating you low just because I can't get anyone on the phone. Your phone system/recording is for your company, not for your customer. I have been waiting for 30 minutes to get a problem solved and my 91 yr. old blood pressure is going higher!! Yes, I like your higher interest rate but as my CD's with you come due, I will be changing to my my local bank, even tho' I wont' make as much interest. At least I can talk to a real live person immediately. This is too much stress for me. I think your phone system is terrible. Have any of your directors pretended like they were a customer with a problem and tried to call in and see how they like it.

Recently I applied for a second home mortgage Loan. I have a credit score of 778 and my loan officer with Navy Army Credit Union stated "PERFECT" several times during our interview. I was told there is a strict policy of decision is 3-5 days. On the 5th day I sent a email inquiring about my loan status. I received a reply that they wanted a letter of my explanation with another mortgage which I withdrew my application. Also a request for my tax records and hazard insurance on my present home which I consider is none of their concern. I was so disrespected by their manner of delivery and substance of their requests. Afterwards I withdrew my application! I thought a credit union to be more customer oriented, not this one! I would bet my credit score is higher than the secondary loan officer that made these requests!

Not user friendly to out of town customers. And when you call in for help, staff is not informed to help.
