Is mortal kombat komplete edition backwards compatible

Finally, MK9 is BC, however, heads up to those that have the Kompelte Edition on disc, if you install it on your X1/Series X console, and either...

A. Copy the X360 save of MK: KE to cloud.
B. Inserted MK: KE into your console.

The save doesn't transfer (as you would be starting all over again) and the game loads up as the vanilla version with no DLC at the start. (Unless one would have had the vanilla version with the DLC already bought previously.)

Not sure how those with the original/vanilla version would probably run it no problem, but MK: KE users are probably left out unless it turns into an Injustice 1 situation where the original and Ultimate Editions were treated as their own seperate versions. (Considering installing MK: KE from the disc acts as the vanilla version.)

As for the online, well, who knows at this point if its still around, I can get in just fine on the X360 console with a few features still on at this point, like the leaderboards (unsure about Ranked/Player), for instance, but for X1 on my end, it shows me stuff like the Kombat Pass, to which, the game was updated or so, somewhere along the line, where it wasn't needed anymore so that you can play online freely without it. And yes, I even tried using the in-game 2-day trial, and it kicks you out acting as the servers don't work.

TL;DR version: Original/Vanilla version owners are probably good for now, Komplete Edition users are left out. (Unless something gets fixed by WB/Netherrealm's end, but doubtful.)

(Unless for some reason original/vanilla users aren't getting things working on their end too, such as DLC and or saves, reply away.)

If you are into fighting games, Mortal Kombat is one of the best fighting video games of all time. That being said, Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition was released in 2013 and came with every available DLC back then.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive, the game was dubbed by some as the best Mortal Kombat ever. In 2020, it was removed from Steam due to some conflicts with the Warner Bros. Games network.

With that being said, Microsoft revived the popular backward compatibility program one last time and added Mortal Kombat 9 along with several other games to the latest version of Xbox.

It is also available to those sporting a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on the PlayStation Now service. But those who are trying to play the game on the recent gen consoles are reporting that every Mortal Kombat 9: Komplete Edition DLC is unavailable right now.

This is really frustrating for those looking forward to enjoying the game on next-gen hardware since it breaks one of the basic components of the game. It also features retro fatalities, four characters, and more than 15 skins.

Hey, I know that there are other people with obtaining the 4 dlc characters too. I could only get the Kitana and Sub Zero classic costumes and compatibility pack 2 (Kenshi) & 4 (Freddy). Rain is a paid content in the marketplace and Scarlet is nowhere to be seen. I bought the season pass for 10 euros thinking that this would fix the problem, but without any succes. Does anyone out there have suggestions? Thanks. Btw; I live in Europe/The Netherlands

So, I think it’s fair to say we’re hyped to have a newly accessible way to play Mortal Kombat 9, ye? Ye! Except, as some others on here have reported, Komplete Edition is reading as a normal version of the game. As in, no DLC, none of the unlockables already completed. Will this be rectified soon or has someone figured out any home fixes?

Fortunately, WB Games support said that they are aware of the issue where Mortal Komat: Komplete Edition DLCs are unavailable and said that it is currently under investigation. However, they did not share any ETA on when it will actually be fixed.
