Anyone ever heard of 'the traveling game'?

My drinking buddies are playing this riddle-like game that they call 'The Traveling Game'.
The goal is to guess the name of a major city by interpreting clues.

Somebody gives clues.

They may or may not start out by saying, "i'm taking a business trip to..."
Then they list the names of cities, "I'm going to Richmond..."
And they may or may not say something like "stay there for X number of days"
Then they list the name of other cities.

There is some sort of code going on.

Can somebody enlighten me as to what is going on?

Setup:

1. Bring everyone in a small intimate circle or space.
2. Select one person to begin the game and decide in which direction the game will go around the circle.
3. Tell everyone you all are "going on a vacation" and have to bring many items with you.
4. Players can start brainstorming (in their heads) about what they might bring.

How to Play:

1. The player to begin the game has to name an item to bring on vacation that starts with an A. They would say, "I'm going on vacation and I'm bringing my Aunt."
2. The next player repeats what Player 1 said and adds something else that starts with a B. For example, "I'm going on vacation and I'm bringing my Aunt, and boots."
3. The third player repeats the items of both the previous players and adds an item beginning the with C, the next letter of the alphabet.
4. This continues around and around the circle until the group brings an item that begins with Z.

Variations:

1. "I'm going on a picnic"
2. "I'm going to the zoo"
3. "I'm going on a space ship"
4. "I'm going on a pirate escapade"
5. You can essentially "go" or "do" whatever you think is fun or matches your theme!
6. Often times players will forget one of the items being brought on the vacation. If they do, you can either help them to remember and keep the game going, or that person is out! It's up to you.

To the moon!
