Mucinex Fast-Max Cold, Flu and Sore Throat Overview

Mucinex Fast-Max Night Time Cold, Flu and Sore Throat is an over the counter medication used to treat symptoms of a cold and flu, including sore throat, minor aches and pain, runny/stuffy nose, sinus pressure, and coughing.

It is a single product containing 4 ingredients: acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine.

Acetaminophen belongs to a group of drugs called analgesics, which is thought to work by blocking pain signals from reaching the brain. Dextromethorphan belongs to a group of drugs called antitussives, which work by blocking cough signals and reducing the urge to cough. Guaifenesin belongs to a group of drugs called expectorants. These works by causing the respiratory tract to release more fluids and soften mucous, which allows phlegm to be expectorated more easily. Phenylephrine belongs to a group of drugs called nasal decongestants, which work by narrowing the blood vessels and reducing the swelling inside your nasal passage.

This medication comes in a oral (by mouth) liquid, hot liquid, and caplet form, and is often taken every 4 hours as needed, with or without food.

Common side effects of Mucinex Fast-Max Night Time Cold, Flu and Sore Throat include dizziness, fast heart rate, and shakiness.
