These locations include: 13 larger downstate areas and central Illinois Driver Services facilities- Including Peoria- for behind -the-wheel road tests, REAL IDs, standard driver’s licenses and ID cards. Vehicles services, such as renewing a license plate sticker or applying for a vehicle title, do not require an appointment. White also highlights that the extension for expired driver’s licenses, ID cards and learner’s permits is set to expire on July 31, 2022. Driver’s licenses and ID cards that expire by July 31. 2022 should be renewed before the date. The extension does not apply to Commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) and CDL learner’s permits. White continues to encourage people to conduct business online at ilsos.gov, which may reduce or eliminate the need for visiting a Driver Services facility in person. Appointments can be made at locations including: Bloomington location: 1510 W. Market St. and Peoria location: 3311 N. Sterling Ave. To schedule an appointment visit the Office of Illinois Secretary of State at ilsos.gov. Appointment slots are listed and will be available each morning. Exceptions are seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities and expectant mothers will be served as walk-ins at all of the designated appointment facilities. They also have the option to make an appointment. For faster access to available appointments, customers should visit ilsos.gov as new appointments are available each day. For those without internet access, the Secretary of State is partnering with the Chicago Lighthouse to provide an appointment hotline, which the public may call at 844-817-4649. Select offices are now going by appointment only. The effort is part of a pilot program at about 15 suburban locations. One is in Deerfield, where the online booking system recently experienced an outage. "So there's nothing online you can do and there's no hotline to call. You have to come to the DMV and maybe get a lot of your time wasted," said Jim Sayegh, who was renewing his license. Customers now have to scan a QR code in person on their smartphones to book an appointment slot. The Secretary of State's office hopes changes will decrease long lines. The system should be in Chicago by the end of next month. Right now, the following driver services facilities that are in the test phase of the appointment program: Lake Zurich, Waukegan, Woodstock, Elgin, Aurora, Naperville, Des Plaines, Joliet, Schaumburg, Lombard, Deerfield, Melrose, Plano and Bridgeview.
