How do I check the fluid in the van listed above it has the 3.8L engine? These vehicles are not supplied with a dip stick. There is a small 'fill tube' that extends into the transmission with plug marked "dealer use only". Allegedly there is a check plug at some point on the transmission so that one could determine the level of fluid without going to the dealer. It may be under a shield on the front of the transmission; however that shield can only be removed by unplugging the
electric/electronic connector that controls the transmission, removing four jamb nuts and assorted other paraphernalia. I have been unable to locate anything that appears to be a check plug. I have jacked the van up, crawled under it and run my hands all over the transmission at this point. SPONSORED LINKS Do you have the same problem? The fluid level is preset at the factory and does not require adjustment under normal operating conditions. It is a sealed system, routine fluid level checks are not required, therefore the transmission filler tube is capped and no dipstick is provided. you may purchase one if you like to check the fluid level yourself. Joined Feb 1, 2011 · 6,564 Posts

UN4- Google "9336 dipstick" or "62TE transmission dipstick". There's lots of aftermarket ones listed, varying from ~$32-70. The thing that scares me is, even the factory write-up states the dipstick doesn't seat all the way. You basically have to feel/listen for it to touch bottom. Seriously? They don't have a real ATF dipstick that you can replace the stupid "see dealer" cap with? Not only that, you're supposed to refer to a temperature chart to approximate how may millimeters of ATF level are supposed to show on the stick. Like I've said in other threads, I understand these transmissions route fluid different ways depending on their temperature, which will account for a small level change, but this whole process is made out to be more complicated than it needs to be. If ATF expanded and contracted as much as they want us to think it does, there'd be bottles breathing on the shelves. Joined Jan 11, 2008 · 2,514 Posts

Not only does this make it difficult to check fluid level and condition, it also eliminates the dipstick tube or opening through that fluid is normally added to an automatic transmission.
Where is the dipstick for the transmission fluid located?Locate automatic transmission fluid dipstick, typically near where the transmission or transaxle meets rear of the engine. It looks similar to the oil dipstick.
