Year-Round Activities
Park Rapids and the entire Heartland Lakes area has activities year-round. The summers are full of concerts and events right in Downtown Park Rapids and the fall color brings Art Leap and other cultural events. Even winter sees it’s fair share of events with outdoor activities such as ice fishing tournaments and snowmobile racing, bringing people from all over to visit Park Rapids.

Celebrate America's birthday in Park Rapids
Plans are underway at the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism for the 4th July parade, scheduled to start at 11 AM.
Featuring the New York Mills Marching Eagles band. Performing in this parade for the 5th year, the band has performed in the nation's second-largest St. Patrick's Day parade in Chicago, the National 4th of July Parade in Washington, D.C. The Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, and numerous shows at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
Parade Route - Starting on Fair Ave near the main entrance of the Hubbard County Fairgrounds; 2nd St. to Main Ave. • Main Ave. to 8th St. • 8th St. to Fair Ave. and disbursing back at the Fairgrounds.

The Park Rapids Rotary Club is renowned for its dazzling Fourth of July fireworks show.
Firecracker Foot Race
Pre-registration is open for the 42nd annual Firecracker Footrace, which will be held on Sunday, July 4. This 5K race which starts and finishes at Park Rapids’ Heartland Park, is a certified USATF fast course with chip timing provided by Pickle Events.
The pre-registration fee is $30 and participants can pre-register online at www.pickleevents.com under “Race Schedule” until July 3. Register by June 29 to guarantee your T-shirt. The cap for the race is 850 runners and walkers.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. A free kids fun run for children age 12 and under will follow the 5K run/walk at approximately 10:15 am.
Bib pick up and walk-up registration will be held at Heartland Park on July 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on July 4 from 6:30 to 8:15 a.m.
This annual race is a fundraiser for the Park Rapids boys and girls track and field teams and boys and girls cross-country teams.

Lake flotillas
The Long Lake Fourth of July flotilla will gather at the New Frontier Resort at a new time: 9:20 a.m. Follow the north or south leaders as they lead off at 9:30 a.m.
The Big Sand Lake Association’s 4th of July boat parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the inlet. Follow Bill Eichten in his restored Chris Craft boat.
The Duck Lake Association is planning a flotilla. Meet at the public access at noon.
The Fish Hook Lake and River Association boat parade begins at 11 a.m. at Red Bridge Park.
The Little Sand Lake Association boat parade begins at 9 a.m., departing from Zorbaz.

Fourth of July parade
Sponsored by Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, the Park Rapids Fourth of July parade pays tribute to the men and women who fought for the nation’s freedom.
This year’s parade starts at 11 a.m. It features the New York Mills Marching Eagles band. Performing in this parade for the fifth year, the band has performed in the nation's second-largest St. Patrick's Day parade in Chicago, the National 4th of July Parade in Washington, D.C., the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, and numerous shows at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
The Alexandria Shriners Calliope and four-wheeler team also join the parade again this year, according to Chamber President Butch De La Hunt.
More parade entries are welcome. Registration forms are available at the chamber office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or online at parkrapids.com.
Check-in and line-up begins at 9 a.m. at the Hubbard County Fairgrounds.
The parade route will start on Fair Ave. and go down 2nd St. to Main Ave. and return to the fairgrounds via 8th St.
Fireworks
Known as “Minnesota’s July Fourth Fireworks Capital,” Park Rapids has one of the biggest fireworks displays in the area. Sponsored by the Rotary and donations from many individuals and businesses, it draws people to Heartland Park from far and wide.
The impressive show, overlooking Fishhook River, begins at dusk and closes out the Independence Day celebration in Park Rapids.
