Marco Island is always buzzing with events, from Christmas to the 4th of July and back to Christmas again. Vacation rentals on Marco Island book up quickly around these holidays, especially the 4th of July since it is part of the island’s “in” season.
Events are always popular during the summer, especially since the summers are typically so warm and sunny. Of course, with so many things to do, you will likely want to plan accordingly ahead of time to hit the events that appeal to you most.
Let’s take a look at some of those events and other activities that happen here around the 4th of July.
What Are the Summers Like on Marco Island?
When booking rentals in Marco Island, it is important to know what the weather might be like during your stay. Summers in Marco Island are probably about what you expect – hot. Temperatures will get into the 90-degree range come August, and hot season lasts from mid-May to early October. During this time, skies can get cloudy, and there can be a good amount of precipitation. The chance of having a wet day peaks at about 73% come mid-August. Although rain is common throughout the year, August accumulates the most at an average of 6.5 inches. Of course, this does make the region rather muggy.
Expect the water to be warm during the summer. The Gulf waters here average at about 83 degrees from June to October. This does make it a bit hard to cool off, but the waters can still be relaxing.
Best Summer Events
Of course, the 4th of July fireworks shows are the biggest event of the summer here. You can head on over to the Naples Pier fireworks show and watch fireworks get lit off a barge 1,000 feet out from and just to the north of Naples Pier. Fort Myers Beach also has a firework display at the fishing pier located on Fort Myers Beach. During this time, the Matanzas Pass Bridge is closed down to oncoming traffic, so you cannot get onto the island. Also, you can see the fireworks at South Marko Beach starting at 9:00 pm right here on Marco Island. This is a great option for those who want to walk and not worry about trying to find a place to park.
4th of July Parades are fun to take in as well. You can catch the City of Naples parade, which goes from Broad Avenue S to 8th Street S, starting at 10:00 am that morning. If you get to the Bonita Springs area, there is a Star Spangled Bonita celebration including a children’s entertainment area with rides, a slip-n-slide, and a giant water slide. There are eating contests that run all throughout the evening, as the event goes from 4:00 to 9:00 pm.
There are other events to take in during the summer. Naples hosts the Third Street Farmers Market on Saturday mornings year-round, and you can find everything there from live music to dog treats!
Other Activities
Summer activities abound on Marco Island. You can do everything from taking the Dolphin Explorer out to meet and learn about dolphins to exploring the Everglades. Fishing is a popular pastime here, and you can find charters of all kinds here. Want to stop on a barrier island to do some shelling? You sure can! Want to just fish non-stop? You can do that. It’s all about what you want to do on your fishing excursion.
The Sun-N-Fun Lagoon in Naples is full of exciting water slides and lazy river rides. Kids and adults alike can enjoy some fun-in-the-sun there. Toddlers can dip into the tadpole pool. And there is even a dive and lap pool for experienced swimmers.
