2023 Yamaha Marine High Thrust 9.9 hp

Yamaha’s High Thrust four strokes, are built for jobs that call for more muscle—like pushing a heavy pontoon, adding extra kick to a multi-species boat or maneuvering a sailboat through a crowded marina. Available in 60, 50, 25 and 9.9 horsepower, their larger lower units and higher gear ratios produce substantially more thrust than conventional outboards of the same horsepower using standard propellers. In fact, when paired with our Dual Thrust™ propellers, (optional on T60/T50 and standard on our T25 and T9.9) Yamaha High Thrusts produce up to 60 percent more forward thrust and up to 70 percent more thrust in reverse.

Our 212-cc 9.9-hp High Thrust outboard is the perfect kicker for bass, flats and multi-species boats. Available in both 20-inch and 25-inch shaft lengths, it can even power boats with 25-inch transoms that venture into deeper, rougher waters. At just 102 pounds, it provides a surprising combination of high-thrust power and portability.

Features may include:

  • Compatible with tiller-handle control and mechanical controls
  • Only 102 pounds
  • Available in 20” and 25” shaft lengths
  • Solid 6-amp alternator

MORE THRUST

The Higher Gear Ratio on Yamaha’s High Thrust outboards make these powerhouses ideal for heavy pontoons and other applications that require an extra measure of muscle.

MAX MUSCLE

Increase thrust up to 60 percent in forward and 70 percent in reverse with a large-diameter, low-pitch Dual Thrust™ propeller. They're optional on our High Thrust T50 and T60, and standard on our T25 and T9.9, and are perfect for sailboats and pontoons. They can also be used on Yamaha Midrange outboards with 4.25" K gearcases.

OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE

Microcomputer Ignition adjusts timing to maintain optimum engine performance, economy and power under all conditions.

SINGLE OVERHEAD CAMSHAFT

A Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC) design creates a compact, lightweight, space-saving design.

FUEL ECONOMY

Precision Multi-Point Electronic Fuel Injection on the T60 and T50 delivers the exact amount of fuel needed for optimum performance and efficiency. Yamaha’s EFI optimizes fuel atomization, further enhancing fuel economy.

SPORTY NEW LOOK

Because the Yamaha High Thrust T9.9 is such a popular kicker motor for the V MAX SHO®, it’s now available with an optional, V MAX SHO-inspired sport cowl. This creates a consistent look between your outboards—and throws a whole lot of attitude on the back of your boat.

How much does a Yamaha 9.9 cost?

9 Portable Tiller 20 • $2,990. Our 212-cc 9.9-hp portable is an impressive little outboard with a new, shorter tiller handle for increased comfort and the option of manual or electric start.

How big of a boat will a 9.9 push?

To answer the question posted "Best size aluminum boat for 9.9hp 2-stroke?" A 12ft would provide the best performance with a 9.9. If you want more boat space then a 14ft would be better but would perform best with a larger motor.

How fast can you go with a 9.9 hp motor?

Assuming this is a light 14' utility boat and a standard 9.9, Mercury would recommend a 8.5 to 9.5 pitch prop for the OP's application and predicts a top speed around 20 mph. In my experience with similar craft and outboards, this sounds very reasonable.

Why is 9.9 hp not 10 hp?

As you may have already noticed, many manufacturers supply 9.9 HP boat motors instead of 10 HP. There are good reasons behind those 9.9 HP motors: Some inland bodies of water have motor restrictions “under 10HP” only. Some states will require boat registration on boats with larger than 10 HP outboard motors.
