Advanced Search Help
Advanced search lets you search selected properties of the classification. You could search all properties or a selected subset only
First, you need to provide keywords in the Search Text field then check the properties that you'd like to include in the search.
The system will search for the keywords in the properties that you've checked and rank the results similar to a search engine
The results will be displayed in the Search Results pane. If the search query hits more than 200 results, then only the top 200 will be displayed.
If you provide more than one keyword, the system will search for items that have all the keywords.
Wildcards: You may also use wildcard character * . see examples below.
OR operator : It's possible to have the results that have either one or another keyword. Please see the example 4.
Examples:
1. Search Text: diabetes {finds all that have the word "diabetes" in the searched fields}
2. Search Text: diabet* {finds all that have a word that start with "diabet" }
3. Search Text: diabet* mellitus {finds all that have a word that starts with "diabet" and also contains the word "mellitus"}
4. Search Text: tubercul* (lung OR larynx) { finds all that have a word that starts with "tubercul" and than has either lung OR larynx in it
Search Results
After the search the results are displayed at the lower right area of the screen. Here the porgram lists the titles of the ICD categories in which your search keywords are found.
Clicking on any result will take you to that category
You may close the advanced search window by clicking the X at the top left corner of the window.
The search results pane can be resized by dragging the horizontal line above it

You have metastases in your lymph nodes.
The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. The cancer cells can destroy the healthy tissue and spread throughout the body.
The cancer cells have spread in your body. The cancer cells have accumulated in the lymph nodes. These are called lymph node metastases. Fluid forms in tissue throughout the body every day. This tissue fluid is the lymph. The lymph is carried around the body by lymph vessels. The lymph vessels run around the entire body and are connected to blood vessels. At some points, there are lymph nodes along the lymph vessels. Pathogens are rendered harmless in the lymph nodes, for example.
Your metastases are in lymph nodes in your armpits or your arms.
Please note: This ICD code may also derive from the ICD-O system. If this is the case, there are usually additional letters and numbers in addition to the code. It starts with the letter M, followed by 4 digits and then a slash. There is another digit after the slash.
If it is an ICD-O code, then this does not describe a malignant cancer in all cases. The last digit after the slash gives you more detailed information about this:
- /0 – The tumor is benign. Cells in a tissue multiply uncontrollably. However, they are not destroying the surrounding tissue and are also not spreading throughout the body.
- /1 – It is not known for sure whether the tumor is benign or malignant.
- /2 – It is an early form of cancer, a precancerous stage where the cells are altered and multiply uncontrollably. However, they are not yet spreading beyond a certain margin and cannot spread to other organs either.
- /3 – It is a malignant cancer. The cells in the affected tissue are altered and multiply uncontrollably. They can destroy the surrounding tissue and spread throughout the body.
- /6 – It is a metastasis. Cancer cells have spread from the originally affected site to a different site in the body and have further multiplied there.
- /9 – It is either a malignant cancer or a metastasis. The cells in the affected tissue are altered and multiply uncontrollably. However, it is impossible to say whether these cells derive originally from the affected site or have spread there from a different site in the body.
Additional indicator
On medical documents, the ICD code is often appended by letters that indicate the diagnostic certainty or the affected side of the body.
- G: Confirmed diagnosis
- V: Tentative diagnosis
- Z: Condition after
- A: Excluded diagnosis
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
