Hoover dual power max pet carpet cleaner troubleshooting

Troubleshooting symptoms and solutions for the Hoover Power Scrub FH50150 carpet cleaner.

The Power Scrub will not pick up water even though the power is on.

If the water tank is full, you’ll hear a change in pitch and the yellow disk inside the tank will shoot to the top which means the cleaner will not pick up anymore water. You will have to remove the tank and dump out the water before continuing use.

If the cleaner is still not picking up water, you may have to rinse out the various parts with water before continuing. Try to rinse out the water tank, including the foam filter, and also rinse out the nozzle as it may have clogs in it. Make sure the circular hose tool connection door on the nozzle is closed as well.

The hose nozzle is not spraying even though you are holding down the trigger.

If the cleaner stops spraying mid clean, or you can't remember the last time you filled it up you may have an empty water tank or detergent container. Turn off the cleaner, Remove and fill up both the clean water tank and the detergent container. See if it fixed your spraying issue.

If the cleaner is still not spraying despite the water and detergent tanks being full, there may be a bubble of air stuck in the pump or the hose. To fix this, you need to turn the cleaner on and lower the hose down to the floor. Next, prime the pump by holding down the trigger for up to 1 minute. If this doesn't help you should call (1-800-944-9200) for service to your device, it probably needs a replacement pump.

The brushes are not rotating during the carpet washing process.

If your brushes are not rotating try removing the brushes and and check to see if they are rotating smoothly and freely when outside of the washer. If they are then most likely the air powered brush motor has ceased rotation due to rust inside. To fix this, you must remove the top of the washer by unscrewing the indicator screws on the top of the washer and pulling the flap on the side. Next, unscrew the plastic covering to reveal the motor. Clean the rust from the center screws and gears in the center of the motor until it spins freely.

If you have tried cleaning the rusted gears and the brush still will not rotate. Order a new motor online to replace the rusted motor. Replacement can be done by following the same steps as above.

Clean water won’t spray out of the hose nozzle.

Make sure the tank is securely locked in place. If this is done correctly, you should hear a noticeable click when the tank is securely locked in to its place.

If you don’t remember the last time you filled up the clean water tank or solution container, one or both of these may be empty. Remove the tank and container to check to see if they are full. If they are empty, fill them following the instructions for the type of surface you wish to clean.

The carpet washer can no longer pick up dirty water and most likely the motor sound is at a higher tone.

First and foremost, turn the washer off. Then, proceed to empty the dirty water tank by releasing the latch which is located at the bottom portion of the tank. Open the quick spout port cap over a drain and proceed to dump all water into the drain. When emptying, rinse all debris and flush out all the water. Place the tank back within the washer and reattach the recovery tank lid latch.

Turn the power off and pull the power cord out of the socket. Then, remove the water/solution tank. It may need to be rinsed out and refilled in this case. Continue by replacing the turning caps back in and placing the tank back in place.

There is a constant drip of water on the floor and there is an excess of water when the tank is taken out.

Start by making sure the power is off and it isn’t plugged in. Take off the tank with the button over the filler caps. Then, proceed to put back the tank in place by setting the bottom edge down and then pivot it back and have it be properly straight and aligned when snapping into place.

Have the device be off and remove the dirty water tank straight out using the bottom hatch and handle. Follow up with placing the tank back on, making sure that it is aligned and properly sealed. Proceed by closing the hatch in the front to stop further movement.

  • Move furniture out of area to be cleaned. Place aluminum foil or wax paper under legs of furniture too heavy to move to prevent wood finishes from staining carpet. Pin up furniture skirts and draperies.

Pretreating:

For best results, pretreat stains with a HOOVER® spot treatment (See HOOVER® Cleaning Solutions Guide) to help loosen and remove even the most stubborn stains.

Why is my Hoover Dual Power Max pet not spraying water?

If the cleaner is still not spraying despite the water and detergent tanks being full, there may be a bubble of air stuck in the pump or the hose. To fix this, you need to turn the cleaner on and lower the hose down to the floor. Next, prime the pump by holding down the trigger for up to 1 minute.

Where is the belt on a Hoover carpet cleaner?

Underneath the cleaner is a brush bar that is driven by a rubber belt. It spins around sweeping and beating the dirt out of the carpet and up into the cleaner. The belt will stretch and wear out so it should be replaced once per year or sooner as a precaution if you feel the cleaner is not sweeping up effectively.
