The textbook industry is extortion and racketeering, plain and simple. But there's hope! You can avoid being a victim of the captive market by finding almost any textbook you need online. In my four years at UBC I only bought a handful of books, and those were only necessary because of evil online access codes.
Some of my favorite resources (besides torrents) are:
LibGen: This is quite simply the best resource for finding a free PDF of almost any textbook
Bigwords.com and Slugbooks: If you absolutely must buy a book, these websites compare prices to find the cheapest deal
[Custom ebook search engine] (//cse.google.com/cse/publicurl?cx=011394183039475424659:5bfyqg89ers): This indexes a number of well-known book sharing websites. List of all the sites it indexes can be found here. Credit to /u/Amosqu for making the custom search.
FreeBookSpot
Bookfi
Gutenberg.org
ebookee
Manybooks.net
Guiciao
Abebooks.com Excellent resource for finding physical copies of textbooks sold internationally for a tiny fraction of the price. Credit to /u/DrSloan for finding this one.
There are many, many more resources out there, but quite honestly between LibGen, the custom ebook search engine (#3), and torrents (e.g. //thepiratebay.gd/ or //kat.cr/), it's unlikely that you will have any difficulty in finding your books.

My goal for this subreddit is to have users post a request for a specific textbook and if you see a request that you have a pdf version please offer a link in a reply. Also if you have a textbook please use the format <isbn-link> for an easy CTRL+F search
