Boneless Pork Ribs Recipe

When I got my other pot I made Ninja Foodi ribs and those came out great. BUT if you don’t have the air fryer function you can still make the outside crispy!

We did this same technique when making Instant Pot teriyaki ribs and they turned out great. If you prefer that sauce then give these a whirl too.

Let’s start with a few basic tips:

  • Make sure to Bookmark our InstaPot recipes page. We add new ones each week!
  • Then PRINT this —–> Instant Pot cooking times cheat sheet that will help you understand how long meat, vegetables and beans take to cook in your pressure cooker.
    • This is a great InstaPot cookbook and set of wooden utensils are great to grab too.
    • I HIGHLY recommend you buy this non stick pot.
      • You should still deglaze pressure cooker after sautéing but it won’t have as many issues with this better liner.

For reference, this is the pressure cooker I have and use for all recipe creations.

Instant Pot Country Ribs

When summertime nears I start thinking about barbecuing, my favorite smoked ribs recipe with a pork dry rub. Some days I don’t get to preparing dinner early enough to do either of those methods though.

That is when this comes in really handy. There is a quick second step under the broiler to get the outside crispy but you can make them super tender and juicy in no time at all using this method.

  1. Rack of ribs, country style is different than baby back as there may not be any bones or just a bit but it’s closer to cartilage texture.
  2. Liquid smoke gives them a nice flavor.
  3. Apple cider vinegar, or apple juice cider
  4. Barbecue sauce
  5. Our recipe for dry rub (linked in the recipe card below), or use your favorite bottled mixture

Beef broth or water is necessary for it to come to pressure. The latter won’t lend nearly as much flavor of course but it is your choice.

You could leave the rub off entirely if you wanted to, and the sauce is optional. I like LOTS of flavor though so the more the better if you ask me. OH, and you’ll need a trivet or small rack so the meat isn’t submerged into the liquid.

What are country style pork ribs?

They are really chops or blade steaks because bones aren’t really present at all. Instead it may have connective tissue and fat inside that should be eaten around. Great to bbq or pressure cook.

If you can find these I think they are up there with the best. With more meat and the absence of large bones that take up space and make it take a bit longer to get tender, we love ’em.

As with making any other sort of meat in an Instant Pot you will need some sort of liquid. This is necessary to essentially steam the protein and become fork tender.

Water is an option if you have nothing else but broth is best.

Another thing you need to remember if you’re using this method is you’ll want a natural release of steam for a bit at the end. This will keep the moisture inside the ribs so they come out the perfect texture.

  • 10 to 15 minutes will do it and once that is up just release remaining pressure and carefully lift lid off to go on to next step of browning.

Almost every brand will come with a trivet of some sort. I love this one with handles because then it’s easy to lift all of them out. Remember they will be so tender that a fork or tongs is likely to break them apart.

Country Style Pork Ribs Instant Pot

  1. Prepare

Cut rack of ribs into smaller chunks, approx. 3-4″ per segment. Rub dry rub all over top and bottom of each piece.

Pour water or broth into pot with your liquid smoke and vinegar, them place meat on a trivet. Place rib pieces on top of the trivet and close the lid and seal steam valve.

  2. Cook

Close lid and set steam valve to sealing position. Set to high pressure for 35 minutes cooking time with a 10 minute natural pressure release. Then release remaining steam and lift off lid.

(could alternatively cook high pressure for 45 minutes with quick release but I think the other gets them more tender and flavorful)

Use tons to remove ribs and if you want them crispy on the outside set on a baking sheet sprayed with non stick cooking spray.
    Set oven to broil.

  3. Crisp

Brush favorite bbq sauce on the top of each piece liberally. Broil for about 4-6 minutes or until tops are as brown as you’d like.

I mean check out this goodness below, I bet your mouth is watering right?? Be honest…..

How do you know when country style ribs are done?

You will want to check the internal meat temperature for pork and poultry especially. For these you need it to reach 170 degrees F to be safe to consume. I have never had an issue using my Instant Pot where they were underdone, never. It has happened with our Crockpot ribs just once though.

Cooking country style ribs has never been so quick and easy y’all!! At the end you can either eat, spoon on some bottled sauce, or make your own with some ketchup, brown sugar and vinegar.

I typically am all about convenience and EASY recipes for your pressure cooker so I usually don’t make my own sauces. If you have your own mixture that you swear by though, by all means opt for that one.

In that case you can make some that are fiery and spicy for some guests and very mild for the kids in your home. I like a medium heat so I can taste the rest of my meal. lol

Want to try another method after this one?? Give our air fryer ribs a whirl too!

How do you reheat ribs and keep them moist?

If you use an oven set to 220 F with a little broth at the bottom of the pan. Cover with foil and bake for 15 – 20 minutes, then check and see if you want them warmer.

A microwave works too, and your air fryer will work wonders believe it or not AND will crisp the outside. Set to 350 F for a few min.
