Title says it all. It's on a 2001 Honda Odyssey

It will be fine. You will not notice any difference in gas mileage or performance between those 2.

It’s not thicker - the starting viscosity is higher. In Florida temps you should probably be using 10w-30 anyway. Might even quiet down motor noise when you initially start it.

Yes. Especially in a warmer climate like FL. The first number only affects the cold start viscosity, and since it's never cold there, it doesn't matter. once the engine is at temp they're the same.

it wont cause any issues. its starting thickness/viscosity is more than 5w30, but once it gets warmed up it will be 30w either way. you wont notice any adverse effects of using that oil in Florida, if you were somewhere significantly colder I would be wary but Florida should be nice and toasty

VTec solenoid? Check that. Very common. 10w30 is fine for now

Long run, you want the proper oil so things like the timing chain and tensioners get enough lube.

How about using 5w 20 instead of 0w 20 like the manual suggests? Vehicle in question is a 2018 Silverado 5.3

Does it really call for 0w20?! That’s the same motor they’ve had for years and they used to call for 5w30 before 0w20 or 5w20 existed. That’s curious.

Awesome vid. I like how he specifically talks about Honda's and vtec. I'll go buy some new oil. I love this van and dont want to risk anything

Thicker oil can cause worse gas milage but U could use it

Ya that’s ight

Well that's unfortunate because it already gets terrible mileage but it is in desperate need of oil

This is not true. The viscosity does not change the physical size of oil. Viscosity is resistance to flow, nothing more.

Is it better to use 5w30 or 10w30?

5W-30 multi grade oil is ideal for private vehicles and light-duty petrol and diesel engines. It also provides a better cold temperature start than 10W-30 oil. On the other hand, the slightly thicker oil,10W-30, provides better lubrication for commercial vehicles and heavy-load engine cars.

Is 5w30 or 10w30 better for summer?

Answer: There is absolutely no need to switch to 10W-30 motor oil in the summer if 5W-30 is an acceptable grade for your engine. While some car manufacturers still advocate the use of 10W-30 (or even 10W-40) as an appropriate engine oil option for summer use, it is completely unnecessary.

What happens if I put 10W

10W30 is thicker and protect older engine with its sealing capability. 5W20 is thinner multi-grade oil that is pertinent for quick starts in the lowest temperatures. In order to protect your car from internal damages, it is beneficial to use only specified engine oil by the manufacturers.
