The Radiation Management Program is within the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Protection Bureau, in charge of performing radiation safety inspections of all type of X-ray machines and radioactive materials sources. We are also charged with verifying that X-ray machine users or radioactive materials licensees are certified to use the machines, and also assure that facilities with X-ray machines are registered with the State Radiologic Health Branch (RHB).
- Assure that guidelines and procedures for radiation safety are always being followed by the users and operators, to protect patients and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure from X-ray and radioactive devices.
- Performs investigation of radiation safety involved incidents, and follow-up on complaints from users and the public.
- Respond to any radiation or radioactive materials involved incidents.
Areas We Serve
Radiation Management oversees the radiation protection throughout Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, Pasadena and Vernon. Radiation Management is contracted by California Department of Public Health and the Food and Drug Administration.

RADIATION MACHINE REGISTRATION
New Facility Registration
Choose this option if:
- Your facility, business, or practice possesses one or more radiation machines.
AND - Your facility, business, or practice does not already have a state facility registration number issued by the California Department of Public Health, Radiologic Health Branch (CDPH-RHB).
Update Registration
Choose this option if:
- You are a registered facility
AND - You need to make any of the following changes:
- Change facility information (facility name, DBA name, physical location address, mailing address)
- Update machine inventory:
- Add new machines
- Delete registered machines
- Correct/update a registered machine's information
Withdraw Facility Registration
Choose this option if:
- Your facility is no longer in possession of any radiation machines,
OR - All Radiation machines that are still in your possession have been made incapable of producing radiation, as defined below:
- "Incapable of producing radiation" means a radiation machine is no longer functional.
- Unplugging a machine or placing a functional machine in storage for use at a later time does not mean it has been made incapable of producing radiation.
Ownership Change
Choose this option if:
Your facility went under an ownership change, which includes, but is not limited to, any of the following actions:
- A sole proprietor becomes a partnership, limited liability company, or corporation.
- A partnership has changed partners or becomes a limited liability company or corporation.
- A limited liability company or corporation becomes a partnership or sole proprietor.
Regulatory Authority
Title 17, California Code of Regulations requires that:
§ 30108. Registration Requirement
"every person not already registered who acquires a reportable source of radiation
shall register with and pay the fee as specified in Section 30145 to the Department within 30 days of the date of acquisition."
§ 30115. Report of Change
"the registrant shall report in writing to the Department, within 30 days, any change in: registrant's name, registrant's address, location of
the installation, or receipt, sale, transfer, disposal, or discontinuance of use of any reportable source of radiation."
