California department of public health licensing and certification verification

Whether you are an employer or a CNA located in California, you may need to lookup a license number or verify a license number’s status at some point. The good news is that this process is relatively simple and straightforward, as long as you know where to look and what information you need.

To begin, you will need to visit the website of the California Department of Public Health, which is the state agency responsible for issuing and regulating CNA licenses in California.

How to verify a California CNA license number

To verify a CNA license number, you will need to visit the California Department of Public Health’s Licensing and Verification Search page. Fill out the Certificate/License Number field and click Search to display the license status and other information for the given license number.

If the license number you enter does not return any results, it is possible that the individual is not licensed as a CNA in California. You can also try searching by the individual’s name to see if any results come up.

How to lookup a California CNA license number

Fortunately, it is relatively simple to lookup a CNA license number in California. You can also do this on the California Department of Public Health’s Licensing and Certification Program Search page. Instead of inputting the license number, fill out the Last Name and First Name fields and click Search.

If you are still having trouble accessing your CNA license number or verifying its status, email the Nursing Home Administration’s Program here.

Why are CNA license numbers important?

CNA license numbers are important because they provide a way to verify that a CNA is currently licensed and in good standing. This is important for both employers and patients, as it ensures that CNAs are qualified to perform their duties.

Verifying your license also identifies its expiration date as well as any other statuses associated with your license that may prevent you from legally practicing as a CNA in California.

For more information on renewing your license, transferring to a different state, and more, visit our page on the California Nurse Aide Registry.
