Assumption of the blessed virgin mary church

Welcome to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish

We are a Catholic community of welcome and warmth sharing growth as we seek to develop as disciples of Jesus using the four pillars of Christian discipleship: Community, Message, Worship, and Service.

  1. Community - Created for and called to spreading God's love and mercy throughout parish family and surrounding community through spiritual and socialopportunities,

  2. Message - Sharing the Good News of God's Love, mercy and redemption to all through Faith Adult, Faith Youth Ministry, Faith Children, andSacramental Preparation,

  3. Worship - Gathering to gratefully share prayer as we participate in the Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist,

  4. Christian Service - Using the gifts God has entrusted to us to serve God by helping those in need.

Reception following 9:30am Mass this weekend

Sr. Jeanne Wiest arrived at Assumption in the summer of 2020, in the midst of the global COVID pandemic. Even under these unprecedented conditions, Sr. Jeanne entered into the life of the parish, caring for our parish family and facilitating its growth in knowledge and stewarding our liturgical worship. She has kept the parish connected to the Christian Service ministries in the Midland area, ensured that our homebound parishioners were kept connected to God and community, cared for and grieved with families who were in need of healing or mourning the loss of a loved one, headed up the summer food truck, and coordinated outreach such as the monthly food drive, the winter boot drive, and back-to-school supply drive. She has been an instrumental leader, especially in our parish Christian Service and Faith Formation commissions.

God has now called Sr. Jeanne to share her considerable gifts in a new mission field in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Thank you, Sr. Jeanne, for sharing yourself with our parish family over these past two plus years. May God continue to bless you and your new ministry!

Please take a moment to stop in Holy Grounds after Mass this weekend for some refreshments and to thank Sr. Jeanne personally for all she has shared with our parish.

Christ's Mission Appeal 2022

A message from Bishop Gruss

As Catholics we are called by the Lord to take responsibility for caring for our Church – to further the mission of Jesus Christ in our world, in our time. The task of caring for the Church is not limited to those within our own parish or even our own city or town. We are missioned to do good and share what we have with those who we know – and with strangers.

Christ’s Mission Appeal is the primary opportunity for Catholics throughout the Diocese of Saginaw to support one another through widespread ministries that impact all 56 of our parishes and well beyond.

All gifts, no matter the amount, touch the lives of the people we serve in our diocese. Your sacrifificial support is very much appreciated as it helps us to continue and expand the Lord’s work.

Please prayerfully consider your gift to Christ’s Mission Appeal. As always, please know of my prayers for all the faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw.

May God bless you and your families!

What does the Bible say about the Assumption of Mary?

A: Like the dogma of Mary's Immaculate Conception, the dogma of the Assumption is not explicitly stated in the Bible. The teaching that 'at the end of her earthly course, Mary was assumed into heavenly glory, body and soul' was dogmatically defined by Pius XII in 1950 in Munificentissimus Deus.

Does the Greek Orthodox Church believe in the Assumption of Mary?

In the Greek Orthodox Church, the first 15 days of August every year are dedicated to the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ. According to the Orthodox faith, the Virgin Mary fell asleep in the Lord and was assumed in the heavens.

This holy day marks the occasion of the Virgin Mary's bodily ascent to heaven at the end of her life. Assumption celebrations are accompanied by festivals, colorful street processions, fireworks, and pageantry. While a “feast” isn't actually required, there is a longstanding tradition of blessing the summer harvest.

Where is the Assumption of Mary located?
